The Regatta Chronograph Developed By Athens Watch And The Swedish Artemis Racing Team

‘Become a winner and get the first chance’ is precisely the purpose of the Swiss Athens watch design and creation of the new ‘regatta chronograph’. The watch is equipped with a patent-pending countdown hand that can set a countdown within 10 minutes. The key to the success of the regatta is a few minutes before the firing of the starting gun, and the sailing team ensures that the sailing boat is skillfully steered out of the starting line at the perfect moment in the best position. After the countdown is completed, the two-way second hand will immediately move clockwise to start timing the game. This simple, convenient and accurate timekeeping function was developed by Athenian Watch and is supported by the Artemis Racing team, the partner of the 35th America’s Cup.
Since 1846, Athens Watch has been continually working on the fields of creativity, uniqueness and precision. With the regatta chronograph developed in cooperation with the Swedish Artemis Racing team, the Athens watch has once again proved its professional technology and pioneering spirit. This innovative movement is completely designed and developed by the watch factory and includes a patented bidirectional timer. The sturdy case brings new power to the regatta. The chronograph is practical and reliable, and can withstand the harsh environment of the America’s Cup sailing race.
Moment of victory
Not only can the regatta chronograph time the race, the most important thing is to count down the decisive minutes before the team rushes out of the starting point. In the ‘Fleet Race’ sailing race, the course of the track is indicated by a buoy. The fleet will count down from 5, 7 or 10 minutes before the start of the race and immediately start the race. In this crucial few minutes, competitors will tactically line up at the starting point according to the wind direction, and more importantly, avoid approaching the competitors, and strive to be closest to and get out of the starting point at the beginning of the game. In this technical, tactical, and professional game, winning first is the key to success. The newly launched Sailing Chronograph is specially designed for high-end sailing, bringing new functions to track the decisive moment. This watch was developed in collaboration with members of the Artemis Racing team, famous sailing athletes, brand ambassadors, Loïck Peyron and Iain Percy, adding professional athletes’ opinions to the design.
Treasure in the hull
The regatta chronograph’s solid stainless steel case showcases a complex movement developed by itself. It contains 650 delicately arranged fine parts to create a unique feature of the watch: the original two-way chronograph system. Athenian creativity is more than that: the sailing chronograph stopwatch function in the center of the dial, with an arrow pointing to the yellow minute countdown scale from 1 to 10 minutes, is easy to read. The countdown hand can be set by the pusher at 10 o’clock. When the countdown starts, the hand will move counterclockwise. At the same time, the chronograph’s two-way seconds hand counts down counterclockwise until the countdown ends. When the countdown reaches zero, it indicates the start of the game, and the second hand immediately starts to move clockwise to time the game. It is counted by the hour and minute chronograph dial at 6 o’clock. The regatta chronograph is clear and accurate when read, and is specially designed for the crucial moment in which regattas must compete against each other to ensure that they have the opportunity.
Winning ticket
Just as rowers study the effects of wind direction and current before sailing, the dynamics of the watch have been carefully designed to ensure accuracy and reliability. This device combines complex functions with a built-in countdown timer, allowing the central second hand to rotate counterclockwise or clockwise for pre-race countdown and race timekeeping. Rowers need not activate any additional operations after starting the countdown. This is the result of several months of research and development. Based on the brand’s famous UN-153 chronograph movement, the new UN-155 movement has excellent performance, convenient operation, and stunning appearance with perfect design. And it has a power reserve of up to 3 days, and the two-way second hand that can stop running when adjusting the hours and two-way adjusting the calendar, improves the intuitiveness of operation.
Show power and beauty with the unique design of the ship’s side
The regatta chronograph has a unique shape, reminiscent of the maritime roots of the Athens watch. The 44 mm diameter stainless steel case is water-resistant to 100 meters. The groove on the coin-shaped bezel is inlaid with rubber, equipped with a screw-down crown and two rubber push handles. The lugs of the watch perfectly match the titanium strap with the rubber strap of the folding buckle. The dial is available in two styles: the first is a deep ocean blue; the second is a vibrant wave of white. Both models have a circle representing the color of the Artemis Racing team. The yellow Arabic numerals countdown dial is indicated by the countdown minute hand; the outermost dial is a Roman numeral hour marker, and the center is the luminous hour and minute hands. Decorated; 12-hour and 60-minute chronograph dials and circular calendar windows at 6 o’clock. The Athens watch, in commemoration of its partnership with the Artemis Racing team at the 35th America’s Cup, has produced a limited edition of 35 watches. This limited-edition model features a black-filled enamel dial with a countdown scale on the edge of the dial. The dial is dominated by yellow and carbon gray representing the Swedish fleet.
